For me, health policy is not theory — it starts in the surgery. In the WHO European Region more than half of adults are affected by some oral disease, and in Hungary a quarter of all health spending is paid out of pocket — a substantial share of it on dental care. Those who cannot afford it are left out, while oral health is one of the most accurate mirrors of general health.

Dental primary care today is a system under strain: at the end of 2025, nearly 8 per cent of primary-care dental districts were vacant, affecting more than 759,000 people — in disadvantaged regions up to a third of the population. I wrote my healthcare-manager MSc thesis on the financing of this system, and my conclusion is that it needs a better structure more than it needs more money — financing tied to real performance and prevention, functioning practice communities, and strong school dentistry.

My goal is simple: better dental primary care and better oral health for the people of Hungary. That is why I write, why I sit on committees, and why I lead our practice community — so that decisions are sound even where the dental chair is no longer in view.
